Beavers

Fun and friendship are the cornerstones of the Beaver program. Through an adventurous program of outdoor activities, creative play, music, and cooperative games, Beavers enjoy time with their friends (and meet new ones), learn how to get along within a group, and develop the confidence to be themselves.

Beavers share many outdoor adventures with their friends in the colony. Nature walks, short hikes, tree plantings and family sleepovers give Beavers a taste of outdoor fun. Through these activities, Beavers develop an appreciation and a sense of caring for the environment.

Beavers are a vital part of the community, country and world in which they live. Visits to parks, power plants, fire and police stations thrill young Beavers and illustrate the many important facets of their community.

October Activities

We need youth to sell the popcorn we currently have in our possession. From 6:00 am to 4:00 pm we need help. If you can come for one hour or two hours please let Heather Stoneman, our Popcorn coordinator, know by emailing her at heatherstoneman@hotmail.com. If possible, she would like to make sure we have two or three youth representing us throughout the day. This is our first time selling popcorn at the market and we hope it will be a great success. The dollar amount of popcorn sold at the market will benefit each youth that participates towards their total sales of popcorn for prizes from Trail's End.

The theme of this year's Beaveree is the Beavers 40th Birthday Party! Beavers will arrive at 1:15pm and one of the leaders will be on the field by the picnic shelter, on the left hand side once you enter the park. Parking is available along the side of the road and farther into the park near the ball diamonds. Here is how the Beaveree works: Each group is responsible for running a 5 minute game. Colonies rotate from game to game for the first part of the afternoon. The next segment is broken into three 15 minute activities - snack, craft and scavenger hunt. The next activity is a sing-along time from 4:00 - 4:20 followed by a closing. After the closing we'll have a hot dog for everyone from 4:30 - 5:00.

People with food allergies other than peanut products are responsible for their own snack.

Apple Day is a traditional fundraising event that started right here in Canada. This is an annual event that provides our Scouting youth with an opportunity to show their appreciation to the general public for their support throughout the year. Our youth distribute apples as a way of saying “Thank You” to the community. Donations are accepted in exchange, but apples are not sold. Any money raised during Apple Day goes towards improving the Scouting program through registration fee subsidies, outings, camping equipment, training and many other endeavours. Each Group has a designated area to canvass including neighbourhood stores and other traveled areas. Although participation and date are up to the discretion of the individual groups, Apple Day usually takes place on a weekend in October in a store near you. Please donate generously when you receive an apple! As details become available, I will let all parents know.
